About Us: Our Mission

Who We Are

The LGBT International FoRB Coalition is a global, multifaith network committed to advancing the universal right to freedom of religion or belief (FoRB)—for everyone. That includes LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, whose rights are too often left out of religious freedom conversations.

But we go further.

We don’t exist just to gain recognition for LGBTQ+ people within faith spaces. We’re here to find common ground that hasn’t yet been explored—between LGBTQ+ people of faith, advocates and activists, and religious and belief communities around the world.

We’re also committed to something many won’t say out loud:

  • Religious freedom means nothing if we only protect it for ourselves.

  • That’s why we rally LGBTQ+ communities to speak out against attacks on religious groups, including hate crimes, church burnings, and cultural erasure—because dignity must never be one-sided.

What We Highlight

We center:

  • The stories of LGBTQ+ people of all faiths and beliefs who face persecution—not just for who they are, but for what they believe

  • The courage of organizations and faith or belief leaders who stand beside them in love and solidarity

  • The work and witness of LGBTQ+ people who advocate for those who face persecution and discrimination, especially across differences of theology and ideology

What We Encourage

We equip and encourage:

  • Faith and belief communities to live out their values by reaching out in love and respect to LGBTQ+ people

  • LGBTQ+ communities to stand against religious persecution, affirming that no belief system should be attacked or erased

Our Identity

We are an independent, international coalition open to all faiths, beliefs and perspectives.

Our work is grounded in covenantal pluralism—a principled commitment to shared dignity, respectful dialogue, and collaborative action across deep differences.

Our Mission

To uphold and promote freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) for all people, including LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, by:

  • Advancing dialogue rooted in dignity

  • Documenting both injustice and hope

  • Equipping faith and belief leaders to lead with compassion

  • Fostering courageous collaboration across belief systems and identities

Our Vision

A world where all people, including LGBTQ+ people of faith or belief, can live freely and safely, in accordance with their conscience.

A world where religious freedom is respected as a universal right, and where all people and communities stand together in solidarity, not suspicion.

Our Goals

  1. Amplify Voices

Share the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people of faith or belief, as well as those who express their beliefs by loving and serving LGBTQ+ individuals.

  2. Track & Report

Expose FoRB-related issues impacting LGBTQ+ people—especially those overlooked in global advocacy and media.

  3. Equip Leaders

Provide faith and belief leaders with tools and support to affirm dignity without abandoning conviction.

  4. Build Bridges

Promote collaboration between groups that rarely meet—across lines of identity, belief, and culture.

  5. Raise Awareness

Spotlight the global intersections between LGBTQ+ communities and FoRB challenges and opportunities.

  6. Model Covenantal Pluralism

Demonstrate what it looks like to engage across difference—with truth, with care, and without fear.
