The LGBT International FoRB Coalition is a global, multi-perspective network dedicated to advancing the freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) and conviction for all people.

A Principle Under Threat

Around the world, the idea of Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) is being misused.

FoRB is a principle grounded in dignity, yet it is increasingly co-opted by nationalist movements and cultural wars and turned into a tool for exclusion rather than pluralism.

At the LGBT International FoRB Coalition, we believe it’s time for something different.

Something braver, more honest, and reflects humanity around the globe.

What We Stand For

We’re building a global movement that starts from shared dignity, not from ideological battles.

We seek out the often-ignored common ground:

• Between LGBT people are religious and those who are shaped by their convictions

• Between members of faith communities and secular advocates

• Between the seemingly impassable ideological divides that can be brought together through an emphasis on dignity, respect, and care for people in need

We believe in protecting the rights of all people, because we share humanity and so much more.
We know that we unites us is far more powerful than what divides us.

A New Kind of Solidarity

We confront misinformation.

We oppose those who weaponize FoRB to divide and persecute.

But we also do something rarer—and more radical:

• We call on LGBTQ+ communities to stand against religious violence and uphold freedom of belief for all, even those we may not agree with. This isn’t compromise. It’s conviction, rooted in empathy, complexity, and moral clarity.

• We also call on religious and faith communities, regardless of theological positions and ideology, to the parts of their faith that call for love and respect for others, even those who they disagree with.
  This is living the Golden Rule—treating others the way you'd like to be treated. The Golden Rule is a principle that shows up in nearly every major religion and philosophy around the world. It is a simple concept that transcends cultural and ideological boundaries, reminding us that at our core, we all value kindness and understanding.

Our Work

The Coalition is a space for bold ideas, principled action, and unexpected alliances.

We aim to reshape the way the world understands convictions, faith and SOGIE (sexual orientation, gender identity and expression).

We work to:

• Build bridges between communities too often seen as opposites

• Disrupt harmful narratives with truth, history, and lived experience

• Analyze global developments at the intersection of religion, SOGIE, and human rights

• Foster dialogue across lines of belief, background, and difference

We are not here to echo tired debates.

We’re here to create a future where freedom of belief, conviction, and life itself - is real and resilient.
